Hard Landscaping

The Structure of the Garden...

Hard-Landscape-left-webHard-Landscape-right-web'Hardscape' or 'hard landscape' comprises the construction materials used to create the 'built' or 'hard' environment within a landscape. These spaces include all areas of paving, gravel works, fencing, water features, pergolas and anything else that is 'built'. It does not include planted areas.

Hard landscape design requires constant research into different products and suppliers to ensure those chosen are best suited for their environment, within the context and scale of the design. Materials used in hard landscape details include: rock, stone, gravel, concrete, bitumen macadam, timber, concrete, brick, resin-bonded gravel, resin-bound gravels, recycled glass and CDs. These can be applied in the creation or design of paved areas, walls, pathways, water features and fences for private or public open space. Hard landscaping can also include garden or street furniture; which may be purchased from recommended suppliers or designed as a bespoke product by ELD.

ELD consistently work with leading product suppliers to stay at the forefront of modern landscape design and construction practices. In conjunction with our arboricultural consultants, ELD has particular expertise in no-dig construction around trees, allowing surface construction to be installed, whilst taking into account the sensitive nature of roots and root protection areas. ELD engage specialist sub consultants in areas that are beyond our immediate expertise, to ensure we deliver high quality design solutions for all of our clients.

We undertake work throughout East Anglia including the counties of Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.  Work further afield may also be considered.
