GARDEN DESIGN
Banningham, Norfolk
ELD was asked to produce an overall concept for transforming 9 acres of farmland into a ‘Capability Brown’ style parkland and formal gardens. The design was developed with details including new woodlands, copses and avenue planting along the driveway and swathes of long grass and bulbs within the wider landscape. More formal gardens were designed near the house, to include a herb garden, a fruit and vegetable garden and a formal parterre, which shall ultimately replace a children’s play area. There are a series of mown lawns, large shrub and herbaceous borders to the south of the house with terraces and paths laid to polished sandstone.
A stainless steel ‘sphere’ water feature shall act as a focal point to the rear, enclosed courtyard, surrounded by a timber pergola that shall enclose the space for children and dogs.
A tree lined avenue is proposed on the main access to the house, with the orchard and evergreen Yew hedge screening the house until the final moment of arrival, thus creating a greater appreciation of the Grade 2 listed house.
