GARDEN DESIGN
Mendlesham, Suffolk
This small garden located in the centre of Mendlesham aimed to provide a low maintenance garden for a retired couple, utilising some existing trees and shrubs. The design contains large timber pergola to provide a shaded seating area surrounded by climbers, with a sandstone paved surface. An existing weeping birch was underplanted with ground cover Lamium and a bench located below the canopy provides an additional seating area.
A stepping stone pathway extends behind existing shrubs creating a secret garden, underplanted with ground cover Bergenia and Helleborus that thrive in the semi shade. The remaining garden was laid to lawns with curvaceous borders, planted with a mixture of grasses, herbaceous plants and shrubs provide year round colour and interest.
