Experience Summary:
Working in private practice for the past 21 years, Ruth has an extensive level of experience in all aspects of landscape architecture, design and planning in relation to new development. During the past decade or so, Ruth has been responsible managing staff whilst developing her Practice and its client Portfolio.
Ruth has been responsible for project managing and implementing numerous Landscape and Visual Impact Assessments for residential developments; masterplanning of new 500 unit village developments; Design and Access Statements; the detailed design of hard and soft elements for all sites; construction details; tender and contract administration for landscape schemes, up to £1.85 million in value and co-ordinating tree and ecological surveys, all as part of planning application related works. This has been undertaken for hundreds of large and small projects, to include residential, industrial and commercial developments, public parks, schools, local authority office developments; high specification design projects and domestic garden designs. She has also acted as a consultant to Local Authorities, advising Development Control over landscape design for planning applications and new developments and is principal client contact and project co-ordinator within the Practice.
Her key role is to take the business from strength to strength, keeping her feet securely anchored to the ground whilst providing a stable and cost effective service to clients. To ensure that Ruth can step into any project, at any time, at any level; she is fluent in AutoCAD, Photoshop and all of the Microsoft packages with a proven ability to enthuse her team, problem solve and ensure that the clients are provided with an exceptional service. As the principal client contact in the business, she provides an unprecedented level of dedication, where nothing is too much trouble and true, ‘added value’ is provided as part of an all round quality service. Abby has 11 years of experience in the public and private sector, joining ELD as an Associate Landscape Architect. Her responsibilities include project and team management, training, checking for quality control and marketing in conjunction with Ruth Elwood, the Director.
Her extensive background includes management of large, multi-disciplinary teams and projects, conducting: Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment Reports; Vision Statements; Design & Access Statements; Masterplanning; site surveys and detailed hard and soft design for housing developments, schools, parks, play areas, nature reserves, private gardens, pubs and restaurants. Other areas of expertise include contract preparation, measured works specifications, cost estimations, management plans and corporate marketing.
Her extensive local authority experience gained whilst advising Development Control and promoting land through the Local Development Framework will further enhance ELD’s planning application capabilities. She has exceptional technical skills in AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp, and Arc View GIS systems.

Experience Summary:
After studying Architecture at the University of Humberside, School of Architecture and receiving a postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Practice, Dawn went on to study Landscape Architecture at the University of Sheffield. She has worked for multi-disciplinary practices in the UK for over ten years, and has been responsible for the detailed design and implementation of a number of public realm and historic parkland projects and, more recently the detailed design development of St James Park in Southampton, and estate regeneration and housing improvement works to four inner city estates in London.
She has worked in close liaison with design teams and other specialists on mitigation measures associated with infrastructure and communication upgrade schemes for Highways Agency, culminating in the production of environmental reviews and project appraisal, as well as overseeing the preparation of landscape and visual impact assessments as part of environmental statements for the Environment Agency on flood defenses and river restoration projects.
Recent work has involved overseeing the rejuvenation and construction of three play areas and open spaces within the busy market town of Ashford, whilst working in partnership with the local council and interested statutory consultancies to formulate a conservation / management plan. Since joining ELD she has continued to develop her passion for landscape design and project management, by working with a wealth of Clients, furthering her keen interest in historic park and garden restoration schemes, enabling the initial design objectives to be revived through the use of long-term conservation management plans to achieve modern design objectives.
